I attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA on a performance scholarship. Afterwards, I co-founded the group Pimp the Cat, which included Mark Greenberg, (Dickey Betts, Ronnie Earl), and Steve Grzeskowiak, (Angelique Kidjo). I also toured with Favored Nations recording artist Johnny A, and spent four years on the road with Global Funk Council playing over 600 shows. I have had the opportunity to play and/or share the bill with Larry Coryell, B.B. King, Joe Craven, Barry Finnerty, Dead Winter Carpenters, Robert Cray, Bill Wyman, Huey Lewis, Dave Mason, Brian Jordan, Rick Parnel (of Spinal Tap), John Staton, Jacam Manricks, Sean Lehe, Jackie Greene, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Ozomatli, Spearhead, Oteil Burbridge, Garaj Mahal, The Isley Brothers, Maceo Parker, and Robert Walters, and have played festivals across the country including the Monterey Jazz Festival, the New Orleans Jazz Festival, Delfest, Hangtown Music Festival, Grey Fox, CA Worldfest, High Sierra Music Festival, and many more. I have recently formed my own groups The Bumptet, Dead f'n Groovin', and Jonathan's Dead, and started touring with Joe Craven (Grisman/Garcia). I endorse Zon, Godin, and Fodera basses as my instruments of choice.
